King Kovy

I don't want to sound like a homer, but have you seen the play of Ilya Kovalchuk over the past week?

He is single-handedly winning games for the Thrashers. The twenty-four-year-old sniper had eight points in four games (seven goals, one assist), including back-to-back hat tricks.

Darren Eliot, Thrashers analyst, describes Ilya's tear in his latest article.

Right now, the Russian rocket leads the NHL in goals with 13; however, he had to leave Tuesday night's game with back spasms and is questionable for Friday's game. The Thrashers' success depends on his stick being on the ice, lighting the lamp.

It's the coach, that's the only explanation. This is the player that Kovalchuk always has been when used correctly.

Just sick!

Kovy is "en fuego" - the hottest player currently in the NHL.

Brought the Thrashers back from the dead. 7-1 in a stretch of 8 straight division games? Bingo!

Don Waddell is 11-4 behind the bench. Will he continue to coach the whole year? Jack Adams?

He's worse than Andruw Jones with his hot-cold streaks, for those of you familiar with Atlanta baseball. Given that, I still think he wins the Rocket Richard trophey this year and tops 100 points. Thirs in the Art Ross voting. He needs a year like this, and the Thrashers need him to have a banner year if they hope to get anywhere in the SE division

Kovalchuk is a good player with potential greatness. He needs to step his game up to the highest level for his name to be mentioned with the elite players in the league. I know he improved his defense some last season at the cost of some points, so now he needs to pick his offensive production up from his 76 points last season and really show that he deserves to be mentioned with the elite of the NHL.

That being said, I think he cracks the starting lineup at the All Star game. That would be a treat for Atlanta fans.
